Between 6 and 7 AM of Monday, May 12, the tendency among the few officials at the White House and the Department of State and Defense who had seen or been told about a message that had been received in the dawn house from the U.S Embassy in Jakarta was to suspect that it reported a house. The message was that fragmentary radio signals purporting to be from the American cargo ship Mayaguez, on the way from the Hong Kong to the Thai port of Sattahip, reported that it had been boarded on the high sea and seized by armed Cambodian at about 2 AM, Washington Time.
