Phnom Penh, January 30 (AP). Mortar and shellfire from insurgent troops stopped a government advance at the center of Phnom Penh's southern defense line nine miles bellow the city, military sources reported. Government positions at the western end of the 10 miles lines also took heavy shelling and the sources said eight government soldiers were killed and 15 wounded in the area in the last 20 hours. Increased Khmer Rouge activity also was reported on highway 4 to the coast, which the insurgents cut again several weeks ago and on highway 1 south-east of Phnom Penh.
