Cambodia: Electoral Farce in Phnom Penh, Presidential elections took place on June 4, 1972. It was the second act of the " democratic " comedy staged by Washington, the first being the April 30, 1972 " referendum " for the passing of the " constitution ". Why was this performance prepened in such a hurry, only 35 days after the previous part and 21 days after its announccement ? In the same way as with the " referendum ", Washington aimed at giving the Phnom Penh administretion a democratic legal and constitutional vernish. P10
