They were a privileged elite: rich, French-educated, archroyalist comforters and confidants of Norodom Sihanouk who chose to share their Prince's five years of exile in Peking. There were only about 50 of them but they had been, like Sihanouk himself, a vital part of the Marxist-led Khmer Rouge United Front that destroyed the American-backed Lon Nol government last April.
