Phnom Penh, April 21 (AP). Rebel troops routed government forces from their beachead north of Phnom Penh today after a savage 24-hour attack, the Cambodian command reported. Casaulties among the estimated 1,500-man garrison were not known but were feared to be heavy. Some of the troops managed to fight their 1.5 mile to the north to joint government troops isolated at Longvek, the command said. The Kampong Luong beachhead, 23 miles from phnom penh, had been reinforced with 20 armored vehicles and four 105-mm cannons. A number of armored personnel carriers were destroyed but it was not known if the guns were still operating when they were abandoned.
