I would like to request that the Khmer Rouge Tribunal prosecute Duch because he tortured and executed a large number of people, including Mom Rem, my cousin. I discovered a photo of my cousin at Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum during a tour organized by the Documentation Center of Cambodia in 2006. In addition, Say Sam-Ol (my brother) and Say Sokhom (my sister) were killed at Tuol Sleng. I could not find their photo, but I did see their biographical documents.
Personally, I suffered a lot of hardship and physical pain due to the harsh working conditions under the Khmer Rouge regime. To this day, I am still physically weak. The suffering associated with the loss of my relatives at Tuol Sleng Prison is particularly difficult. In 1978, in Taing Talatt Village, Pneal Commune, Samrong Torng District, Kampong Speu Province, I saw KR soldiers strike a woman because she had spilled some unhusked rice. I witnessed the incident because at that time I was part of a group of women who were transporting bags of unhusked rice. Another terrifying event which occurred after the KR took control of the country was during my work assignment with the mobile unit of Region 15, Bantheay Preap. While I was returning from work at midnight, I witnessed a Khmer Rouge cadre strangle a man with a rope. However, I didn’t know the reason for the execution. The story of my cousin, Mom Rem, who was arrested and sent to Tuol Sleng Prison, was also shocking to me. Furthermore, at the end of 1978, my elder brother Say Sam-Ol, and my elder sister Say Sokhom, were transferred to S-21 Security Center, accused of being traitors. I didn’t witness the arrest; however, I would like to file a complaint against the afore-mentioned crimes. Should the tribunal have any inquiries or doubts, please seek further information via the Documentation Center of Cambodia or directly through me. |
