Summary / Abstract :
|
The Khmer insurgents, who control almost all of Cambodia apart from the capital, Phnom Penh and a few urban enclaves, are now conducting a diplomatic offensive in their attempts to gain control of the whole country. Their deputy prime minister Khieu Samphan, is now in cairo after a tour European and African countries which seems to have to objective. One is to creat enough good will to win the Cambodian United Nations seat which is at the moment held by the Phnom Penh government headed by Marshal Lon Nol. The other is to present Khieu Samphan himself as an international figure possible with the intention of displacing prince Sihanouk from the rebel Cambodian leadership.
