Summary / Abstract :
|
Phnom Penh: Angkor has prevailed for a thousand years. Cambodia has been at war with itself, overtly, for little more than two years. The war is winning. In June 1970, North Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge forces laid seige to the ruins, built in A.D. 800-1100. They entrenched themselves within Angkor park-the 12-by 6 mile stretch of land containing the main monuments of Khmer civilisation. Cambodian peasants streamed into the park; it became a sanctuary from the war the was ravaging the coountryside. P1
