Summary / Abstract :
Phnom Penh: While the fighting in Cambodia rages on, the residents in the small town of Kampong Seila continue to hold off the Khmer Rouge in the longest siege of the war. No one has been able to leave the town since early May and all supplies have to be dropped by air as the constantl barrage has prevented helicopters from landing. The town, on highway 4, approximately 115 kilometres southwest of Phnom Penh and 70 kilometres northeast of the Kampong Som, formerly Sihanoukville, is situated some 12 kilometres on the southern side of the winding Pich Nil pass which cross the Elephant mountains there. The area is heavily wooded and precipitous. To the south there is a smaller mountain range set in similar terrain.
