Summary / Abstract :
|
Inevitable, the dislocation of the economy has brought the country's export earings to an all-time low just 10% of 1968 earning. Thanks to "arrangements" reached between French rubber planters and the Khmer Rouge, which actually controled all the plantations (Review, August 9), the export of latex tentatively resumed last year when $10.2 million worth was exported, providing 68% of total export earings following the recent nationalisation of the plantations by the Royal Government of National Union of Cambodia (GRUNK), there is, however, some uncertainty about the future of rubber. western abservers expert that the flo of latex from the Khmer Rouge zone to Phnom Penh will not be totally halted but the Fench may have to pay a higher price.
