Summary / Abstract :
|
Phnom Penh: As the funeral service of Khmer newsman Lim Savath killed while covering a battle near the Cambodian town of Kampong Chhnang, began in Phnom Penh, two men who helped recover his body the previous day, American photographer Al Rockoff and Korean news cameraman Yosep Lee, were seriously wounded only a short distance from where Savath died. The Cambodian war has always help an attraction for the field reporters, especially those specialising in background features to supplement the straigh news reports. The soldiers welcome is always sincer and even in the darkest moment of defeat the Khmer show an amazing fatalism, coupled with a deep belief in their Buddhist religion, and they have word of encouragement for the confused and often frightened newsmen.
