Summary / Abstract :
|
Washington: while a number of US senators now openly endorse the idea of a third force as an alternative to President Thieu, the state department view opposition to his regime with misgivings. US official fear the development of opposition politics will lead to increased violence and an undesired instability which would serve as ground for communist infiltration. The state department, through Ambassador Graham in Saigon, has warned Thieu to deal leniently with opposition demonstrations and so far US officials here say they are pleased with Thieu's moderation and his defence of his government.
