Mr President: I hope you will allow me to associate myself with the entire assembly in offering to you my cordial and sincere congratulations on your election to preside over the twenty-fifth session of the general assembly. The unanimous choice that has elevated you to your office at the historic session does honour both to you and to your country. Nor would I wish to allow this occasion, when I have this opportunity of addressing the assembly today, to pass without paying a tribute one more, on behalf of the Khmer people, to his exellency U Than, who has devoted all his human capacities and energy to serving the charter of the United Nation and the cause of peace.
