Summary / Abstract :
|
When the communist came to our village we didn't have a single gun to protect our homes, recalls Youk Gneb, who has spent the past year as a refugee living in the countryard of Prek Tameak's Sovann Vatei pagoda on the edge of the Vihear Suor marshe. The Cambodian army's defeat of the north Vietnammese 9th division in the marshes may mean that Gneb and her family can soon return to their ancestral farm. In the mean time, Gneb and other refugees trips of bamboo into brightly collored mats. "If we could be granted just one wish", she sighed as she sat crossleged on the weaving loom, "all we would ask for is no more war".
