The rolling thunder of 500-pound bombs echoed through the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh last week; from all appearances, it was the American air war as usual. But with the August 15 deadline for a halt to the bombing of Cambodia fast approaching, the struggle had begun to alters. The U.S. Air Force announced that it was starting to bring the bombers home-withdrawing fifteen B-52s (but leaving a "more than adequate" 200 B-52s and 400 fighterbombers behind to continue pounding Cambodia until the last possible minute).
