Summary / Abstract :
|
Cambodia's battlefields are quiet for the moment, but the diplomatic front in Phnom Penh is suddently and mysteriously active. Russia's resident diplomats and their families left the Cambodian capital on Thursday in circumstances as clandestine as they could make them. For the past three years the Russians have maintained as embassy-though not an ambassador-to President Lon Nol's unabashedly pro-western government. Then, on October 9th, the Soviet Union informed Prince Sihanouk's government in exile in Peking that it had been recognised as the sole sovereign government of Cambodia.
