The vote a little too close to be heralded as a triumph of statesmanship, but the outcome saved the United Nations General Assembly from blundering into a destructive and dangerous precedent. By 53 to 50, with 21 abstentions, the Assemble deferred a Chinese-led move to unseat the representatives of Cambodia President Lon Nol and substitude the will-o'-the-wisp exile regime of Prince Norodom Sihanouk.
