The VNA noted a statement by Jean Kanapa, member of the political Bureau of the central committee of the French communist party, published in "L'Humamite" on 4th January, in which he said that his party strongly supported the Vietnamese Government's proposal for negotiations between Hanoi and Phnom Penh to settle the border issue in a spirit of friendship and good neighbourlines.
