At forty, Dr Oum Nal, Stomatologist from the Medical Faculty in Paris, was a deputy chief physician in the big Phnom Penh Hospital, the Preah Ket Mealea. Build at the begining of the protectorate, the former hospice had 500 beds but now has 1,500. However, on the last day of the war, in the morning of the 17th of April 1975, more than 2,000 sick and injured civilians, the majority of them women, children and elderly people, crowded the smallest free spaces: halls, corridors, storerooms.
