Summary / Abstract :
|
Six months after the fall of Phnom Penh in 1975 communist troops swept through Wat Preyrong a Buddhist temple north of Pursat in western Cambodia disrobing the 30 monks, they carried them 20 miles to a military camp deep in the jungle. Each day for the next eight months, Sok Ren, a 22 year-old who had been studying as a young monk in Wat Preyrong, farmed the nearby fields for his communist master, listened to lengthy lectures on the new Cambodia and finally, a year ago, was given a rifle and became a of the communist army.
