After two years of extreme autarky, Cambodia has stepped up its purchases of goods and equipment from the capitalist world. In the first three months of this years Cambodia purchased over HK$ 16 millions (US$ 3.5 million) worth of foreign goods in Hong Kong mostly British, French and American compared with HK$ 11 million worth in the whole of 1976. By international standards the trade is still tiny, but its recent rapid growth from such a low base is significant. And as invoices for purchase are submitted to the Bank of China for payment, it seems Peking is providing the finance.
