Summary / Abstract :
|
A little more than two years after the Khmer Rouge seized control of Cambodia, the country has become what an American official calls "one of the strangest in the world." Because doctors are afraid to demonstrate their prewar educational background for fear of being branded "Counter-revolutionary," such deseases as cholera are treated with coconut milk and Pepsi-cola. Promiscuous young men are beaten to death with hoe handles while their girfriends are forced to watch.
