One version said it began when a Khmer Rouge soldiers stepped on this own land mine -- a common enough occurrence along the jittery Thai-Cambodia frontier. Hearing the explosing a group of Thai militiamen on patrol nearby guessed what had happen the burst into raucous laughter and cheers.
