So relentless has been the extermination of Cambodia's middle classes - according to most accounts of Communist Cambodia known in the west - that the survival of Chan Serey Montee, a pedigree class enemy, comes almost as a shock. Miss Chan, 18, fled across the border into Thailand eleven days ago, and spends much of her time crouching on the floor with the dazed look of a survivor from a shipwreck or all crash.
