Names of relatives lost during the Khmer Rouge regime:
1. Yeay Run 2. Suy Ran 3. Suy Say 4. Suy Saroeun 5. Suy Sokhom 6. Suy Leng The foregoing people were evacuated to Pursat Province in 1976. In 1979, their neighbors who survived the regime, reported that the entire family was starved and killed by the Khmer Rouge. Part C: Harms: Property lost to the regime: 1. Houses in Phnom Penh and hometown 2. Money and gold. Additional Information: (dated 2 October 2009) Evacuation: On 17 April 1975, Khmer Rouge soldiers evacuated my mother (Suy Run ) and my siblings (Suy Ran, Suy Say, Suy Saroeun, Suy Sokhom and Suy Leng) from Phnom Penh to our home village of Kbal Koh Village, Yok Bat Commune, Kien Svay District, Kandal Province. The living conditions there were very difficult because the Khmer Rouge didn’t provide us with enough food (such as rice or corn) to eat. This malnutrition caused my mom to suffer from swollen disease. Because of extreme hunger, my mom secretly visited me to find food at Koh Prak Village of Phoum Thom Commune. I risked death by surreptitiously cooking rice for her. We didn’t live together. Mothers were divided from their children and husbands were separated from their wives. Everyone ate the same food ration. Only those who dared to steal food could manage to fill their stomachs. In 1976, Angkar again evacuated my mother and siblings (as named above). All I knew was that Angkar told my family to move to Pursat Province, where there was plenty of rice. At that time, my family made no objection to the evauation, because their village was suffering from starvation. Hence, my mother and siblings set off for Pursat Province. In 1979, Ming Koeun, a neighbor who was also evacuated to Pursat Province and lived near my mother, told me that she herself almost died of hunger. Her husband and her children were all dead. She had nothing left. She survived the regime and returned alone to live in our village. She then told me my mother’s story, relating how Yeay Run, Suy Ran, Suy Say and Suy Sokhom had passed away due to starvation. Suy Saroeun and Suy Leng were arrested by Angkar and executed along with their children in 1979 when the Vietnamese troops invaded. Thus, none of my family members were able to return to our village. I learned this story only from Ming Koeun. I do not know in which village or commune they lived during that time. I only know that it took place in Pursat Province. |
