Kuala Lumpur: In a surprise move, foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) have asked Malaysian Foreign Minister Tunku Ahmad Rithauddeen to visit Hanoi, representing not only his country but the grouping as a whole. Although Hanoi at first said it would not accept him in his Asean role, only as Malaysian's Foreign Minister, indications are that if he gets to Hanoi, he will take a new conciliation line, arguing that Asean and Vietnam have a common interest in preventing China from dominating Southeast Asia.
