Summary / Abstract :
With the rhetoric pared away, it was a striking exercise on frankness. Kampuchea is in turmoil, living conditions are growing worse, cadre have taken concubines, and guerrilla remnants of the toppled Pol Pot regime continue to do what they know best-kill people. Two months after a Vietnamese-led invasion felled the Khmer Rouge leadership, the word from Phnom Penh is that there is still no end to Kampuchea's agony, no reprieve from nine years of suffering which began when a stern army general deposed a semi-divine prince and set off a chain of events that took countless lives.
