Before the arrival of the Hanoi troops in Phnom Penh on 7 January 1979, the whole of our center, professors and 600 students withdrew into the areas under the control of the Government of Democratic Kampuchea, west of Phnom Penh. After many mishaps, together with a small group of intellectuals, we were encircled by Vietnamese troops. To escape them, with the help of the fighters of the National Army of Democratic Kampuchea, by group from 2 to 3, we nipped in and out of the enemy's lines to ningle with the population.
