For almost a year intelligence reports have maintained that 60-70% of Vietnam's Army in Kampuchea comprises dispirited Southern recruits. But a Vietnamese soldiers captured during the June 23 incursion into Thailand said that, in his unit, the 6th Battalion of the 75 2nd Regiment, exactly the opposite was the case - 70% Northerners (10% of whom were long-serving regulars) and 30% Southerners. It is the same, he claims, in the rest of the parent 75th Division.
