Kept on the sidelines during many of the cold war's major conflicts, a rejuvenated United States finds itself cleaning up some of the problems that were left behind. Peackeeping missions hae multiplied since 1987, UN forces have been dispatched to Namibia, Angda, El Salvador, the Western Sahara and the borders separating Iraq from both Iran and Kuwait.
