Summary / Abstract :

In Paris in 1979, I talked to a Khmer refuge named Sok Sopha, a former customs officer, who was evacuated from Phnom Penh to the Southeast Zone in April 1975. In the first months, he told me, there were "many killings", his own wife died, and of his work group of 4 families only three or four had no deaths from disease or starvation. In December he was moved again ( to the northwest, where life was similarily bad), but not before noticing what he said were radicaly different conditions in the Eastern part of Kampuchea.
