Phuong Thy, female, 53 years old, lives in Trasek Chrum village, Malai sub-district, Malai
district, Banteay Meanchey province. She was born in Kauk Thnang village, O'Prasat sub-district, Monkul Borei district, Batambang province. Before the DK regime, she studied through grade 12, but then quit to help her parents farm. In 1975, Thy and her parents were evacuated to O'snguot village. There, she worked with her parents in a cooperative. Her mother was a cook. In 1976, Thy was separated from her parents and assigned to work in the mobile unit in Nimit commune. In 1979, when the Vietnamese troops arrived, Thy៌s parents returned home, but she did not because the KR evacuated her, with their soldiers, to Daung village, Malai district. Later, Thy was assigned to work a transportation unit where both men and women worked together. Two years later, in 1981, she married a soldier. In 1985, Thy moved to live at refugee camp 85, because the situation along the border became unsafe.
