Thaing៌s wife៌s name is Lim Aot. They have three children (one brother and two sisters). He is a farmer.
Thaing was born in 1960 in Koh Ker village. Thaing៌s father៌s name is Saom Niem and his mother៌s is Bo Matt. Thaing has two sisters and is second in his family. He did not go to school when he was young because of civil war in his village.
When the KR came to power in April 1975, they killed several of Lon Nol soldiers and buried their bodies near Linga Temple. Another soldier was shot in Koh Ker village and his body was buried near Sdach Damrei Sar. Thaing៌s family members were forced to separate at that time by the KR. His father was the Koh Ker commune chief during Sangkum Reastr Niyum. He was taken to work in a vegetable unit, his mother to work in a cooking unit, and his elder sister to work in a mobile brigade unit. His youngest sister was in a child unit in Srayang.
