Yan Lanh, male, 47 years old and lives in Banteay Chass village, Preah Pralay commune, Trapeang Prasat district, Oddar Meanchey province. Lanh was born in Saeng village, Sraeng commune, Prasat Balaing district, Kampong Thom province.
Lanh did not go to school since before the KR regime. In 1976, the KR sent Lanh to Ratanak Kiri province with his mother; and other two brothers. Lanh៌s father was a commander of division 801. The division៌s office was in Veun Sai. [Ta] Saroeun was a chief of the division.
In 1977, Lanh was in Child Center of the Division. There, he studied Khmer letter with other hundred children. He was in the center until 1979. Lanh said that he got enough food with three times of meal per day. Besides, the studying, the KR assigned teenagers to grow bananas, vegetable, cut grass; and produced fertilizer. Yen and Soeun were chief and deputy chief of the center.
Lanh and his family ran into forest when the Vietnamese arrived in Cambodia early 1979. Lanh៌s father and one of his brother were shot dead by Vietnamese when they looked for food. Aftermath Lanh and his family walked with other KR cadres of the Division៌s office including [Yeay] Nan who is [Ta] Saroeun៌s wife. Lanh was along Cambodia-Thailand border at Ampil 5 Daem, O-anluok, Baraing Thleak as well.
In 1980, Lanh and the cadres climbed Dangrek Mountain and they was at KR military base [808]. They continued to another base [1001] at Tonle Ropeou in a few days later. Unfortunately, Lanh got illness and he could not travelled with those cadres. So, his family decided to stay at the base [808]. There, Lanh joined Division 612.
In 1997, [Ta] Mok and Pol Pot forces had internal conflict. A result, [Ta] Mok defeated Pol Pot forces. At that time, [Ta] Mok ordered Lanh and other two KR soldiers to guard [Ta] Saroeun, [Ta] Khorn; and [Ta] Sen៌s families when their husbands were arrested with Pol Pot.
