In 1968, Sim joined the KR movement and then he ran into forest. In 1972, the KR organized as military unit. There were two military units include Unit 160 and Unit 140 within Southwest Zone. Bit was a chief of Unit 160 and So Saroeun was chief of Unit 140.
In 1974, the KR created as a Division 14 of Special Zone. So Saroeun (05) and Miech San (06) were chief and deputy chief of the division. There were three regiments include Regiment 15, 16 and 17 within the division. [Ta] Ren, [Ta] Prang; and Keo Saroeun were chief of each regiment.
After the KR entered Phnom Penh in April 1975, the Division៌s office was in Olympic Stadium. In August 1975, the KR changed the division៌s name as Division 801 and sent to protect Cambodia-Vietnam; and Cambodia €“Lao borders at Ratanak Kiri and Stung Treng provinces. Sim was a member of the division committee. In late 1978, Sim lead hundred troops to fight against Vietnamese soldiers in Doc Keu battlefield of Vietnam territory. Sim and his soldiers were blocked in Vietnam soil when the Vietnamese entered in Cambodia in January 1979. Therefore, Sim had to escape from a place to another place and finally Sim led his soldiers to pass Tonle Sre Pauk and finally stayed in forest of Stung Treng province.
Sim crossed from east to west banks of Mekong River and climbed up Dangrek Mountain in 1980. Sim was in the KR military base [1001], Tonle Ropeou just only a few months, and then [Ta] Mok called him to another KR base [1003]. There, he was assigned as a chief of Intervention Division 980. Soeun (Roth Kros) was a deputy chief of the division. In 1982, [Ta] Mok added Meas Mut as a member of division committee. Meas Mut is [Ta] Mok៌s son in law. Also in 1982, Meas Mut, Soeun; and Sim had argument each other. As a result, Soeun quitted from his position and join the Free Khmer (Para Forces) and Sim returned to the Military base [1001] in 1983.
When the Vietnamese took over Cambodia-Thailand border, Sim and other moved to Thailand territory. Sim was in division 801៌s office at Stung Chan. Sim gone down to live Preah Pralay and Tomnop Dach communes when the KR took over Anlong Veng area in 1990.
Sim still did not believe in what people say that So Sarouen (05) and his cronies killed Son Sen and his family members when the KR had internal conflict in 1997. Sim said that in a morning after the night that Son Sen and other were killed, he met with 05 in Tomnop Dach and 05 informed Sim that he heard some information about Son Sen murderer via Radio communication. 05 also asked Sim joining him to visit Son Sen body. However, Sim refused to visit the event.
Sim moved to live in Tuol Cha village when the KR integrated with the Cambodia government in 1999.
