Summary / Abstract :

The 1970s were horrific year for the country and people of Cambodia. As the decade downed, civil war along with spillover from the conflict in neighboiring Vietnam resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, the uprooting of millions and the destruction of vast amounts of arable land. When the war ended in 1975 with the Khmer Rouge defeat of the Khmer Republic headed by Lon Nol, many welcomed what they thought would be an era of peace and re-building.
