The land of the Khmer "Commonly Known as Cambodia, and more recently Kampuchea, has been much in the news during the past decade. The periode between the 14th and the 18th centuries had been a painful one for the Khmers and their homeland. Thailand and Vietnam, the latter successfully emerging from the centuries long Chinese domination, vied with one another to become Cambodia's suzerains.
