Thai authorities informed UNHCR on 16 December of their decision to proceed with the formal closure, on 31 December 1986 of the camp for khmer refugees at Khao-I- Dang as initially announced on 13 June 1986. Khao-I- Dang was opened in November 1979 to accommodate Khmer flooding into Thailand at the time.
