Half a dozen nightclubs have opened in Vientiane in recent months, more than a decade after communists took over Laos and shut down the capital's raucous nightclubs. On weekends, hundreds of young people, wearing blue jeans or fashionable Thai dresses, crowd the clubs and dance to ear- splitting music played by local rock bands.
