Australia is to be the first country to appoint an ambassador to Cambodia's Supreme National Council, a post which will be filled concurrently by the ambassador to Thailand, Richard Butter. Making the announcement, Foreign Minister Gareth Evans said much remains to be done to conclude a political settlement in Cambodia, but important steps had been made at the meeting in Thailand.
