My name is Nou Soeung and I currently live in Preah Theat Village, Roluos Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province.

The death of my husband Ut Oeun:

During the dry season of 1977, a Khmer Rouge cadre (name unknown) called to my husband who was digging a canal at Kraing En Village, Cheung Kep Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province, and asked for help transporting machines. (I don’t know to what place.) Since then I have never seen his face. When the Khmer Rouge called him, I was also digging the canal, on the east side. I don’t know the reason why he was taken away. During the Lon Nol regime, he was a mototaxi driver.

The loss of father to starvation:

During the rainy season of 1976, my father lived in Preah Theat Village, Roluos Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province. My father, Im Nou, died of starvation. The Khmer Rouge provided only corn at meals. The cooperative chief of Preah Theat Village was Ngorng (male). I don’t know the reason why the Khmer Rouge starved people. During that time, the harvest yields were excellent, but we were still not given enough to eat. I witnessed the death of my father.
