While it is still 100 soon to separate shadows from substance in the recent political crisis, the following is a tentative appraisal of events. The present situation began with the appointment of General Lon Nol as Prime Minister by both parliament and Head of State apparently suiting the later with to dissociate the general gracefully from the army which he has led since 1955.
