Summary / Abstract :

The Khmer Republic was proclaimed on 09 October bringing to an end of the world's oldest monarchies and closing yet another door on Prince Sihanouk's returned to the country. The change to republic had the support of the urban population, Particularly in Phnom Penh; And the youth , sections of the national assembly and the armed forces and actively, if any, have yet to become apparent, but the institution of the republic, while it was unwelcome to France, Indea and European communists, made no obvious difference to Cambodia's dealing which these countries, let alone to the dealing with countries sympathetic to the Cambodian cause.
