The french attitude towards, the government was cautious but normal dealings continued and the french ambassador was the foreign minister most frequent visitor. It is likely that the considerable french influence here will be exerted in favour of a negotiation with the Vietnamese communists as the best means of preserving the considered french economic interest in Cambodia.
