Summary / Abstract :

Schlumberger (foreign ministry indochina desk officer) gave us on 26 October some background on the recent French statement (Reftel) to the effect that Sihanouk was welcome to visit ''As friend of France''. He confirmed that the France wanted to mend their fences with him after the sharp exchanges in August this year (O.PA 67946, O PA 67900, O.PA 67901). the fact that the statement had been made by the president spokesman did not necessarily mean that Sihanouk would be received by president Giscard .
