Your memo 497 immediately following telegram gives our translation of press release issued by Italian foreign ministry on 26 June 1976 concerning relations with Cambodian.
Salemei (minister in charge of Asian affairs in the ministry )advised that until April 1975 the Italian ambassador to Saigon had been also accredited to Phbnom Penh (where there had been no resident Italian representation) after the fall of Saigon and the departure of the Italian ambassador and in order to forestall pressure from left wing political in Italian government in April 1975 had suggested to the new Cambodian government that diplomatic relations be continued . |
