English and Thai language press reports on 20 August 1977 quote Gen Kriangsak as saying that Cambodians leaders had prevented an attempted coup in that country in April 17. Cambodian leaders suspected Thailand involvement in the PLOT and therefore launched the attached against Thai villagers near the border this year.
