Summary / Abstract :

I refer to our telegram no. 765 of 27 May reporting on a conversation with the foreign minister, Mr Koun Wick, about China. The main comment that Mr. Koun Wick made during the conversation was that he was considering policy towards China in the United Nation with a view to getting the Cambodian government to agree to the entry of the people's republic provided that Thaiwan was not expelled as result. He also said that the Cambodian would expect some undertaking from the people's republic to request the obligations of United Nations membership as the to Taiwan, Mr Koun Wick said that the Cambodian would not establish a diplomatic mission there but that a consulate might be established mainly for trade.
