There was a sharp increase in anxiety about the economic situation. prices rose and shortages increased the free market rate of the riel rose to 220 to the $ US as compared with the official rate of riels 55 to the $ new government got off to rather uncertain start and the main measures it plans especially in economic affairs, have yet to be announced. It is evidence that the three deputy prime minister under the prime minister delegation,general Sisowath Sirik Matak , will have a good deal of independence of action.
