Despite the fact that Prince Norodom Sihanouk's overthrow generated a great wave of popular enthsiasm in the Khmer republic, and although his exile has now entered its second year, the Prince Sihanouk remains am important figure in the Khmer Political scene. He has worked hard at sustaining the image of his royal government of national union of Cambodia, (GRUNK) as the legitimates government of khmer republic, and has had some success in winning international acceptance of his claim (GRUNK's victory at the Georgetwon non-aligned conference contributed further to its aim of undermining Lon Nol's government abroad.
